Think of the Beginner Hobbyist Workshop as “Photography 101″ for DSLR users but way less stuffy and more fun than a course at your local college! This beginner’s workshop is for the photography hobbyist looking to gain a better understanding of your camera and learn basic techniques to get better images instantly regardless of whether you are shooting your kids or your cat Smokey. If you own a DSLR but only know how to shoot in full Auto or Program mode than this workshop is for you! The beginner’s workshop will consist of a relaxed classroom session followed by an actual staged shoot where workshop attendees will be able to put what they have learned into practice and get hands on help while shooting our fabulous child models during a mock session!
What will the beginner’s workshop cover?
- Understanding your camera (Don’t just point and shoot!!)
- Understanding the basic components of aperture and shutter speed
- Understanding exposure
- Compositional basics for better portraits
- How to use natural light for better images
- Posing basics
- Hands on practice shooting a real life children’s session!
What do I need to have in order to attend?
- A digital SLR camera (no point and shoot cameras please)
- A desire to learn how to take better pictures!
- You should also plan on bringing your camera’s user manual
What is the general workshop schedule?
8:45am | Arrive, settle in, grab a snack (light snacks provided!)
9:00-10:45am | Classroom portion
10:45-11:00am | Transition to outdoor location for mock children’s session
11:00-12:00pm | Hands on practice during mock children’s session
What is the cost to attend the beginner’s workshop?
The SCP Beginner Hobbyist Photography Workshop is limited to 10 attendees for both our Virginia and Florida workshop locations. This is to ensure that every workshop attendee gets personalized one-on-one instruction in a relaxed environment. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Who is Shay Cochrane anyway!?
I have been doing wedding and portrait photography professionally in both Virginia and Florida for 7 years now. My work has been featured on various wedding blogs and online magazines. I currently live in Tampa, FL with my husband Graham and our sweet, curly haired, songstress/comedian, 2 yr old ball of energy Chloe, with another baby on the way in February of 2012! While I love the excitement of the wedding photography industry, at the end of the day I just want to have amazing images of my children and family to decorate my home and to keep the memories of these precious years in my heart.
