Calvin and Henry

I cannot even tell you what a pleasure it was to meet this sweet family and their two handsome boys! These guys were so much fun and so eager to do the shoot. We started with a trip down to the lake on their family farm and threw rocks into the river, then we played a bit in the corn field and rounded it off with the guys attempting to teach me how to play chess on the front porch (a game I am apparently just not smart enough for!)….oh yea, and somewhere in all that fun we got some amazing pictures!! Here are just a few of my favorites – I would post them all up here if I could!

Dr. James Sease
shaycochrane on Jun 25th 2008
I was recently hired by the University of Richmond’s alumni magazine to do a fairly average portrait of an 81 year old retired surgeon who lives in the area and travels the world on his motorcycle. What I didn’t expect was that I would want to spend the rest of the day with him and his sweet wife listening to their interesting story. Just when this “average” portrait was about over, Dr. Sease asked if I wanted to “give them something that would really knock their socks off” – I of course agreed and Dr. Sease began to explain how proud he is of his new tattoo and asked me to take a few pictures with his shirt off showing his tattoo! Needless to say, Dr. Sease is a fun and very interesting guy and I appreciated the opportunity to photograph him.

Katy and Tristan
shaycochrane on Jun 25th 2008
Katy and Tristan were married on June 14th in Lexington, Virginia at the beautiful home of a family friend, the Chases. I have been excited about this wedding since the moment I met Katy at our first wedding consultation. Katy is beautiful and “artsy” which showed in her incredible attention to fun detail at the wedding. Nothing was done plainly out of wedding tradition which made the who day feel exciting and laid back. The build up to her walking down the isle was so incredible that even I was holding back tears! I knew that they both were awesome Christians and that this would be the focus of their ceremony and relationship! To see all of the love of family and friends…it was all just such a beautiful event and I wish them the very best in their new marriage! Here are a few pictures from their day!

New Maternity Shots
shaycochrane on Jun 17th 2008
Not only is Tracy one of the most beautiful pregnant women ever, she was also a professor of mine during my psychology undergrad. Actually, both her and her husband Bryan are great teachers, awesome people and two of my most memorable college professors. So, obviously I was excited for the opportunity to do maternity portraits for them – they are expecting their first child this summer! We did these fun portraits in their beautiful home and Tracy was all smiles and upbeat energy – If it weren’t for the belly that gave her away you would never have known she is 8 months pregnant! I can’t wait to meet their new arrival!

A Side Note On Beauty…
shaynicole on Jun 10th 2008
I suppose one of my shortcomings as a photographer is that I tend to think that people are beautiful exactly the way they are. Let me explain…as a portrait photographer, some people would argue that it is my job to be able to look at a person, recognize their “imperfections” and know how to make them look their best through crafty lighting and posing. While this may be true to some extent, I tend to think that people look the most beautiful when they are simply being themselves – otherwise- where will we draw the line?

Anna and Robert
shaycochrane on Jun 6th 2008
Here is a little sneak peak at an engagement session that I had a few weeks ago with Anna Hsu and Robert Robinson. Both are fellow JMU alum (GO DUKES!!!) so they were excited to recapture some of their college memories during their shoot on the JMU campus. These guys are so sweet and I am so excited to be photographing their wedding this summer!

Summer Storm
shaynicole on Jun 5th 2008
Don’t you love those summer evenings when a storm can roll in and then pass as quickly as it came leaving the sun shining bright again?! My sweet husband was patient enough not to mind that I got up right in the middle of dinner tonight to capture these quick shots out our kitchen window.

Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to photographing the wedding of two incredible people, Ashley and Tony. Their wedding took place at the beautiful Fredericksburg Country Club in Fredericksburg, VA. The entire wedding day abounded with love from friends and family and their wedding ceremony was beautifully orchestrated to show the couple’s deep love for God! It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of such a fun and laid back wedding! I wish you both the best of luck!!
